Mission

The Connecticut River Conservancy (CRC) restores and advocates for clean water, healthy habitats, and resilient communities to support a diverse and thriving watershed.

How Connecticut River Conservancy serves our community

As a nonprofit organization, CRC is dedicated to the Connecticut River and tributaries, as well as the public’s interest in clean water, healthy habitat, and life-filled rivers and streams. Their programs engage volunteers and work with local, state, and federal partners to protect and restore rivers, riverbanks, and overall watershed of the Connecticut River basin.

What Does CRC Do?

Through collaborative partnerships in New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, CRC leads and supports science-based efforts for natural and life-filled rivers from the watershed source on the Canadian border in Northern New Hampshire all the way down to Long Island Sound.

CRC Programs & Initiatives

  • Community science programs engage volunteers in invasive species management and surveys to locate sea lamprey nests to better understand this important migratory species’ range and needs for improved habitat. Community action events such as the annual Source to Sea Cleanup create further collective impact for cleaner, healthier rivers.
  • CRC and partners collect water samples and post E.coli results on the “Is it Clean? Esta Limpio?” website, sharing information for swimming holes and areas of concern for water cleanliness. (Note: The Ashuelot River Advisory Group samples and tests water from sites across the Ashuelot River’s 64 miles).
  • River Stewards advocate in local communities and state legislature to develop policies that benefit rivers and ecosystems, build coalitions that represent the interests of both human communities and wildlife, and improve requirements for hydroelectric facilities when it comes to operating standards, fish passage, and recreation access.
  • The Restoration Program includes dam removals, stream bank stabilization, tree plantings, and flood plain restoration.
  • Year-round events that are in-person and virtual provide educational opportunities, river experiences, and community connection.
