Mission

Kurn Hattin Homes transforms the lives of
children and their families forever, guided by
our core values: Perseverance-never give up, always give your best; Nurturance-take care of yourself – your body, mind, and spirit; Hope-hope will carry you through the hard times and beyond; Compassion-have compassion for yourself and others—it makes the world a better place; and Sense of Worth-you matter, always be true to yourself, be courageous to find, accept, and live your passions without regret.

How Kurn Hattin Homes for Children serves our community

Founded in 1894, Kurn Hattin Homes (KHH) for Children is a year-round charitable residential home and school for children ages 5-15 and provides supportive intervention for families experiencing a period of need or instability. While children come to Kurn Hattin Homes for many different reasons—poverty, instability in the home, loss of family or an inability to thrive safely in another school environment—our goal is to give every child a safe, caring place where they can learn, play, grow, and experience the joy of childhood. No child is denied admission for financial reasons.

Our experienced, caring staff take the time to learn the unique background and needs of each child and family. Subsequently we’re able to provide optimal care and individualized support to help all children reach their full potential in all areas of development: academic, physical, social, and emotional. In addition to the accredited curriculum of our K-8 school, the children are taught to think independently, make wise decisions, and to respect one another.

Kurn Hattin Homes also places a strong emphasis on giving back. The children provide community service by singing and playing music at senior centers, nursing homes, hospice events, schools, and clubs and we also give them the opportunity to choose the organizations and fundraising projects they would like to be involved with including Meals on Wheels, Empty Bowls, The Humane Society, Parks Place, and Our Place Drop-In Center.

The many services and programs we provide for the children include:

Individual and group counseling
Medical and dental care
Tutoring
Speech therapy
Recreational activities including sports, music, experiencing horticulture, maple sugaring and hands-on equine therapy
