You may have heard that a few banks in our state announced they have shut down their mortgage lending programs. They cited the growth of alternative “non-bank” mortgage lenders in the market and stated that this product line was not profitable for them. It is possible that more banks will follow suit.

I want to be clear in letting our customers and community know that Savings Bank of Walpole does not share this view and our mortgage lending business is here to stay.

At SBW, we believe mortgage lending is more than just a product line. It is a critical part of a community bank’s mission to serve the financial needs of our community. In fact, we continue to add mortgage products to our offering and strengthen our lending team to provide the best possible experience to home buyers.

I often ask our mortgage team,”Did we make any dreams come true today?” – and I assure you that Savings Bank of Walpole will not stop making dreams of homeownership come true for our community.
